This extremely dated video clip introduces video to a new craze sweeping the world: Internet. When you need something to remind students that there was life before the Net, this is the resource to use. It also provides a view of the Internet as it used to be: text only, giving students a path to understanding how technologies adapt and evolve over time. Students can be asked to consider how dependent they are on particular technologies, and how there school and home lives might be different if the Internet did not exist. How would these changes translate into the working world? What are the effects of the Internet on today’s globally connected economy?

Hi Ross,
I remember when they also used the term “information super highway” in the 1990s, lucky they stuck to the “internet”, much easier to pronounce. Interestingly, they also used the term “cyberspace”, so I am thinking that this was made in the early 90s.
Another observation, I noticed that there were absolutely no sign of any females, except for a short voice over and all the males were no older than 40 and were of the geeky type. How the audience of the internet has now changed!

Interesting comment on the gender imbalance: I did not even notice this, but it is really significant. I think it is interesting that the video refers to “Internet” rather than “the Internet”: I think this makes it seem more dated than anything else.
